About Florida Safe Home

Starting a home-improvement project is often the hardest part. You search through dozens of companies, make repeated calls, compare proposals you’ve never seen before, and try to work out who is actually right for your home — all before anyone has lifted a tool.

Florida Safe Home gives you one place to start: see what the county already knows about your home, learn about the work you’re considering, and — only when you’re ready — be connected with a contractor who serves your project type and area.

We serve homeowners across Florida. Contractor availability depends on the companies in our network that serve your county and project type. Our property and permit data currently covers Miami-Dade County and the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Plantation, plus Town of Davie permit history from 2000 to 2018, and we are expanding it.

Enter your address and answer three quick questions. Your Storm Readiness Report shows what county property records say about your home — year built and the building-code era it falls under, home type, living area, and whether your county sits in Florida’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zone — alongside your own answers about your windows, roof, and backup power.

It’s a starting point, not an inspection. It’s free, there’s nothing to buy, and you can stop there if that’s all you needed.

2. We review the request and match it against contractors in our network by service category and service area.
3. One contractor contacts you — not five. We use a controlled matching process designed to connect you with one contractor at a time, so your information is not blasted to a list of companies.
4. You decide. There is no obligation to hire. Your agreement for any work is with the contractor you choose.

Matching depends on the contractors available in our network for your project type and area, so a match may not always be available for every request.

Contractors apply to join the Florida Safe Home network. Before a company is activated, we check its submitted license information against the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), review a submitted certificate of insurance, and consider its category experience and service territory.

These checks happen during application review and reflect that point in time. Credentials are not continuously monitored, and Florida Safe Home does not perform background checks. We encourage every homeowner to verify a contractor’s license at MyFloridaLicense.com before signing anything.

Florida Safe Home is free for homeowners. Participating contractors pay us a Success Fee only when a referred homeowner signs a contract with them for a qualifying project. Homeowners never pay Florida Safe Home, and we do not set, mark up, or negotiate contractor pricing.

Florida Safe Home publishes and maintains these guides as an organization. They are written and reviewed by Florida Safe Home rather than credited to an individual author or outside expert, and each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.

When a guide makes a factual statement about licensing, permits, product approvals, insurance, wind mitigation or a state program, we check it against official Florida or federal sources and link those sources at the bottom of the page. Requirements change and vary by jurisdiction, so the source is always the authority.
